Rental car company Hertz Global Holdings is cutting over than 4,000 jobs to reduce costs, as businesses and consumers cancel travel because of the economic meltdown.

About 12% of the company’s work force, including part-time employees, will be cut.

Including the 4,000 jobs, the company has eliminated 32% of Hertz’s work force since August 2006.

Hertz  (also known as Hertz Rent A Car or simply Hertz) is the second largest general-use car rental company in the world, with 1,900 locations in the US and 5,100 abroad.
