Microsoft will hold a “town hall” style meeting with CEO Steve Ballmer and other senior leaders this Friday morning. The meeting will come the morning after Microsoft will release it’s 2008 earnings release. The company claims that these town hall style meetings are routine after releasing earnings reports.

This meeting, however, might not seem so routine for some Microsoft Employees. The Software giant has been hounded by speculations of possible layoffs.

The internal notice states that Ballmer and other executives will “share their thoughts on 2nd quarter earnings” and “the year ahead.” The company has declined to comment on the whether or not there is any truth to the layoff rumors. However, the rumor mills have been buzzing, and anything but a denial will probably just fuel speculations.

The meeting on Friday will be important regardless of any layoffs. Microsoft’s earnings are symbolic on Wall Street. As the tech industry feels the effects of the economic downturn, analysts will keep their ears and eyes glued to the happenings at Microsoft. This Thursday’s report is expected to be one of the most pivotal in the company’s history.
