General Manager of Springfield’s Clear Channel, Paul Windisch, confirmed that the company made layoffs at their site in Springfield–just part of the company’s eventual plan to cut 7% of its U.S. staff.

Reports earlier this week showed that the radio and billboard company would be cutting costs: about $400 million of them. Perhaps starting with employees.

Clear Channel owns five radio stations in Springfield. Those include 105.9 KGBX-FM, KGMY-AM ESPN 1400, 100.5 KSWF-FM, 95.5 KTOZ-FM and 97.3 KXUS-FM.

“We did have to make some changes today, and we will definitely miss our colleagues,” said Windisch. He later said, “It’s a tough day.”

Windisch wouldn’t comment regarding the total number of layoffs in store for Clear Channel, referring those questions to the corporate offices.

“We are making sure that the quality of our programming and the results for our advertisers remain in place,” he said.

The layoffs were not a surprise according to reports.
