United Airlines to Shed 1,000 Employees

United Airlines’ parent UAL has reported wider Q4 losses from a year ago, and intends to shed 1,000 salaried and management jobs this year, in addition to 1,500 job cuts announced in 2008.

For all of 2008, the US airline industry is expected to report a loss, following two years in the black.

United’s cuts will bring total headcount down 30% from the end of 2007.
