Pelosi: Economy is “dark, darker, darkest almost.”

In an interview on ABC’s “This Week” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi defended the Democrats plans to jump start the economy. She also said that any proposals from the Republicans will be judged by their ability to create jobs. Other factors will be their cost, and their ability to help the economy.

Republicans are requesting tax help for small businesses as well as for some home buyers. They would also like to see some income tax rates lowered.

President Obama will meet with Republicans some time this week to work on the stimulus plan. The house may vote on Obama’s $825 billion economic stimulus proposal after that meeting.

Pelosi called the economy “dark, darker, darkest almost.” She claims that Democrats are listening to economists and now agree that new spending will create more jobs than tax cuts.
