IBM continues Layoffs At Plants Across U.S.; Exact Numbers Not Determined

IBM will continue its waves of layoffs at plants throughout the U.S. this week. However, exact numbers are yet to be determined.

Spokesman at IBM’s New York headquarters, affirmed that the company will be cutting jobs, but declined to say how many or from what departments. This is in accordance with the company’s long-standing policy of not reporting all of those details up front.

Lee Conrad of the Alliance at IBM, which is a labor union tracking the layoffs, says that up to 800 employees from IBM’s Systems Technology Group lost their jobs at the company’s East Fishkill, and Burlington, Vermont plants.

The Alliance also reported layoffs at Rochester, Minnesota; Tuscon, Arizona; and Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

The union count about 2,800 layoffs during the past week, which were mostly in the software and distribution divisions.
