RVElkhart County, already saddled with Indiana’s highest unemployment rate of 15.3% in December because of layoffs in the recreational vehicle industry, got more bad news today when two RV makers announced another 600 workers will lose their jobs.

Keystone RV in Goshen informed 350 workers they will be laid off in April.

Jayco in Middlebury told more than 250 workers that they will be out of work in two weeks.

Elkhart County Commissioner Mike Yoder estimates the county’s unemployment rate is now likely closer to 20%.

Hundreds of workers last year lost their jobs at RV makers Coach Corporation and Pilgrim International. It’s the second big layoff for Keystone RV, which last August laid off 290 workers.
