Bombardier airplaneMontreal’s Bombardier, the world’s third-largest maker of commercial aircraft, says it plans to cut 1,360 jobs at its aerospace unit, or 4.5% of the division’s workforce, as business jet deliveries are projected to drop.

The company will slow production of its Learjet and Challenger planes amid “greater than usual” deferrals and cancellations for its business planes. Total aircraft deliveries were down 2.2% in the fiscal year ending January 31st.

The job cuts will take place at facilities in Montreal; Wichita, Kansas; and Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The job reductions start this month and will take place during a five-month period. The jobs of 1,010 temporary workers and subcontractors will be cut, and 350 permanent employees will be let go.
