A Hebron, Ohio quartz manufacturing plant has cut 74 workers in recent months, after plans to place some employees on temporary leave were scotched by a worsening economy.

Albany, New York’s Momentive Performance Materials eliminated the workers at the Licking County plant between October 30th, 2008, and January 10th.

A total of 80 workers were affected in the reductions and layoffs, with six returning to their jobs.

Momentive is owned by New York-based Apollo Management LP, which also owns Hexion Specialty Chemicals of Columbus. The company, known for making silicones, quartz, and ceramic products, has about 5,000 workers.
