While many industries in the private sector are losing jobs and employees, the United States government will be hiring as they gear up for the next official Census in 2010.  The Bureau of the Census, a part of the US Department of Commerce, plans to hire hundreds of temporary workers all across the country as they gear up for next year’s massive tally of every citizen in the United States.

The jobs are expected to last anywhere from two to ten weeks depending on the workload required in each region.  Those hired for the positions will use hand-held computers to verify addresses supplied on a list from the Bureau.

More positions are likely to become available when it becomes apparent which households ignore the address verification form, thus needing a follow up visit.

The Census Bureau has 12 Regional Offices located in Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and Seattle.

Interested parties are encouraged to contact their local Census office, or to call 1-866-861-2010.
