An Ohio paper manufacturer has sold part of its business to a New York paper maker, a move that a union official says will eliminate 200 jobs.

CEO Tom O’Connor Jr. of Mohawk Fine Papers announced today that his Cohoes, New York-based company acquired brands of premium uncoated paper made by SMART Papers, based in Hamilton in southwest Ohio.

United Steelworkers Local 1967 President Rick Farley said salaried workers and union officials were notified yesterday of the layoffs, expected to begin May 1st.
