Each of the 15 teachers at the Tulare Adult School in Tulare, California will receive potential layoff notices this week.  The notices are pat of a plan to cut $1 million from the school’s budget.
The layoffs, if any, would be effective in June, said Superintendent Howard Berger of the Tulare Joint Union High School District, and would not affect current courses.
As many as 10 teachers could be back for the fall school year, said Alfonso Gamino, assistant superintendent of human resources.

The goat of the school district is to reduce the Adult School’s budget by 20 percent.  The current budget is about $3.6 million.
“We want to make sure our revenues equal our expenditures,” Gamino said.
Laid-off teachers likely means eliminated Adult School programs. The district is still working on which teachers would be laid off permanently, Gamino said, adding that would affect what programs are offered.
“We are looking at all services for the time being,” he said.
