Hirschfeld IndustriesSteel and girder manufacturer Grand Junction Steel is closing its doors and eliminating 100 jobs.

The firm’s San Angelo, Texas-based owner, Hirschfeld Industries, provided 60-days notice to the United Steelworkers of America. The company is located in Grand Junction, Colorado.

It said demand for specialty tub girders for bridge construction was limited in 2008, and failed to improve for 2009.

The 62-year-old company said it will continue to operate steel-bridge fabrication plants in Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama and Texas.
