School Employees Take Voluntary Pay Cut to Save Jobs

Some school district employees in Maine have voluntarily given up part of their pay to keep colleagues from being laid off.

More than 60% of the employees of School Administrative District 17 agreed to sacrifice pay to make up for a budget shortfall, and save seven jobs.

The city of Lewiston has proposed a wage freeze and a delay in scheduled raises for union members in order to avert layoffs.
