Flordia flagPotential federal projects in the Everglades could generate more than 3,000 jobs in the next few years, according to the South Florida Water Management District.

Many jobs would be in construction and in related industries such as engineering and manufacturing.

Nearly $200 million will be spent largely on projects aimed at helping heal the dying ecosystem. The vast wetlands and marshes have long suffered from encroaching development, and agriculture that contributes fertilizers and pollutants to the ecosystem.

Some projects would likely be funded by the US Army Corps of Engineers using funds from the recent federal stimulus package.
