Green Diamond to Lay Off 85

Seattle’s Green Diamond Resource Company and its Korbel, California subsidiary, California Redwood Company, have announced they will lay off 85 people in Northern California.

Green Diamond says three quarters of the jobs are coming from mills in Korbel and Brainard, which have scaled back production as new home production disappears.

Some laid-off employees will get severance packages, and others will be placed on long-term leave.

Green Diamond, which logs 450,000 acres in Del Norte, plans to eliminate 28 timber jobs.
