Illinois flagHoward County in Illinois will hold “minimal layoffs,” and will furlough employees starting in July.

The layoffs will affect up to 12 employees out of more than 2,000.

The county is dealing with drops in revenue from income tax and real estate sales, as well as investment losses.

Howard County’s unemployment rate rose to 5.2% in February, below the state’s 7.2%.
