Iowa Community College Cuts Faculty
Post Views 2Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa will lay off 10 full-time and 33 part-time faculty members.
Remaining staff not covered by a collective bargaining agreement will suffer a pay freeze and involuntary furloughs.
The school blames state budget cuts. The state’s community colleges could face $22 million in state cuts next year.
The Hawkeye Institute of Technology opened on July 1, 1966, replacing the Waterloo Area Vocational School. In 1992, Hawkeye became comprehensive, adding courses in the liberal arts and sciences. In July 1993, the school’s name changed to Hawkeye Community College.
