Corcoran Gallery Cuts 18 Jobs
Post Views 0The Corcoran Gallery of Art is cutting 18 jobs at its museum and art school, and will offer free admission on Saturdays to boost attendance.
The layoffs affect senior managers and entry-level jobs, and represent 5% of staff. The museum also is extending a hiring freeze, and will suspend contributions to employees’ pension plans.
None of the layoffs affected curatorial staff or faculty at Corcoran College of Art and Design.
A 30% decline in the museum’s endowment is primarily responsible for the financial troubles.
The Corcoran is Washington, DC’s oldest non-federal art museum, founded in 1869.
