GeisingerGeisinger South Wilkes-Barre Medical Center, which serves Pennsylvania’s Wyoming Valley, will shut down its emergency department in July, and end all in-patient services.

One hundred and eighty people will be laid off. Last summer, the hospital let go 400 employees.

Local citizens who need emergency room service or major surgeries will have to go to the Geisinger Wyoming Valley facility in Plains Township.

The Geisinger Health System is a physician-led health care system of northeastern and central Pennsylvania, with headquarters located in Danville.
