Alien TechnologyCalifornia’s Alien Technology is closing down its Fargo, North Carolina plant, laying off 30 workers.

The layoffs will be complete by mid-June.

The factory manufactures RFID chips for retailers and other industries. Alien got $1 million from the state Commerce Department and from the Bank of North Dakota to create jobs in Fargo. If the plant closure is permanent, the state will work to get its money back.

Founded in 1994, Alien Technology is headquartered in Morgan Hill, California, with a RFID tag manufacturing facility in Fargo, North Dakota; the Alien RFID Solutions Center, in Dayton, Ohio; and sales offices in the US, Europe and Asia. It currently employs approximately 235 people.
