Coty to Lay Off 510 in North Carolina

CotyNew York City fragrance manufacturer Coty is halting production at the former Del Labs plant in Rocky Point, North Carolina, and will close down its Leland facility, putting 510 people out of work.

The company purchased the Del Labs facility in 2007. Production will be phased out over the next 12 months, with the loss of 420 jobs.

The Leland operation will close by year’s end, and 90 people will be laid off. Those let go will get severance and outplacement.

Founded in Paris, France in 1904, Coty Incorporated is the world’s largest fragrance company. It is also a beauty products manufacturer, whose main businesses are fragrances, color cosmetics, toiletries and skin care. It is known for its cooperation with designers and celebrities for the creation of fragrances; prominent among them are Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Jennifer Lopez.
