Maryland County to Cut 55 Jobs, Freeze Hiring

Prince George's CountyMaryland’s Prince George’s County Council has approved a $2.6 billion budget for fiscal 2010, which calls for a hiring freeze and the elimination of 55 county positions.

The plan also mandates a 10-day furlough for all county employees. School funding will be cut by $45 million.

The budget takes effect July 1st.

Prince George’s County is located in Maryland, immediately north, east, and south of Washington, DC. As of 2007, US Census Bureau estimates gave it a population of 828,800. It is the wealthiest county in the nation with an African-American majority.
