Job Cuts, Furloughs at Missouri’s Newport Television

Newport TelevisionLast week, Kansas City, Missouri’s Newport Television cut 33 full- and part-time positions at six stations; and it is requiring its 2,000 employees to take a two-week furlough without pay.

The furloughs include the company’s corporate staff, union employees and contract employees; but sales account executives are exempted.

Newport Television, LLC is a television station holding company founded by Providence Equity Partners and Sandy DiPasquale in 2007 to acquire television stations owned by Clear Channel Communications. It owns 50 stations in 22 markets, but has no stations in the Kansas City area.
