New York City Securities Firms Gain 1,400 Jobs
Post Views 1New York City securities firms have added 1,400 jobs in May and June, and now employ 164,500 people.
Securities firms had been losing jobs since August 2007. The highest employment rate for these firms was in December 2000, when firms employed over 200,000.
Despite this, the city’s unemployment rate rose to 9.5% in June, the highest rate since July 1997. New York City employers overall added a total of 5,900 workers June, compared to 11,000 people in June 2008.
