Two Thirds of the nation’s schools reported cutting jobs this year, and a whopping 83% expect to cut more jobs next summer. Job losses have been heaviest among aids and teachers of core subjects like Math and English. Meanwhile, tuition at public and private universities and graduate schools continues to rise. In California, budget cuts to the CSU system have triggered mandatory furlough days for instructors, leading to fewer class sessions even though tuition has gone up.
