pfizer_160x120Pharmaceutical powerhouse, Pfizer, announced yesterday that it would be cutting a total of 680 jobs from it’s Collegeville and Great Valley campuses. The layoffs had been expected ever since Pfizer Inc. purchased rival Wyeth back in October. The Collegeville and Great Valley campuses were once major Wyeth operations.

Gwen Fisher, a spokeswoman for Pfizer told told the press that 450 of the layoffs would come from Collegeville, while 230 would come out of Great Valley, and that they would take effect on March 12.
State Senator Andy Dinniman, responded to the announcement, saying “We did not expect that the layoffs would be as great as they turned out to be.”

Dinniman and other state legislators had been lobbying Pfizer to limit job cuts after the merger was complete.

On Monday, official letters will be sent out to all employees who were effected by the cuts.
