tulsapolice (1)Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett received a proposal from Police Chief Ron Palmer earlier this week that, if passed, could result in over 100 layoffs. The police force would stand to lose 10 majors, two captains, and eight sergeants from its management, as well as 82 corporals.

However, reducing management would take several years before it took full effect.

“Bump downs,” or forced demotions, were thrown around earlier as a possible method of carrying the Police Department through the budget crisis, though Palmer did not think it would create much savings.

He has now changed his mind, and thinks that over time, it will aid the city’s ailing finances.
