Continental Airlines Laying Off 150 Ramp Workers

Continental Airlines is laying off 150 workers at seven airports effective June 1. The majority of the layoffs will be baggage and cargo handlers.

The St. Louis Business Journal reports the airline will bring in a third-party vendor for ground handling services. Among the layoffs will be 25 at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport and 30 at Kansas City International Airport.

Other airports to be affected are in Greensboro, N.C.; Norfolk, Va.; Pensacola, Fla.; Providence, R.I.; and Richmond, Va.

Continental Airlines is based in Houston, Tex. and is the fourth-largest airline in the US based on revenue passenger miles.
