farm_workDean Foods, one of the nation’s biggest dairy processors, will make more job cuts, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Dean blames supermarkets’ recent spree of mark downs on their own dairy and milk products, which Dean claims draws consumers away from Dean’s higher-end and more costly milks and cheeses. As a result, Dean has seen profits shrink.

Competitors’ sale of like products at a near zero profit margin will cause Dean to cut up to 400 jobs in its largest division, Fresh Dairy Direct. The elimination of these jobs will save Dean approximately $25 million.

Dean eliminated an additional 150 jobs earlier this year. The impact of this new round of let-gos will have on the economy of Northern Texas, where Dean has is headquartered, is uncertain.
