At least 90 engineers working at Lockheed Martin’s Dallas division of missiles and fire control, reports NBC DFW.  The cuts represent approximately 1 percent of the region’s Lockheed workforce.

The layoffs come at a time when military spending is down and are made, according to a company spokesperson, “with a view to strengthening our competitive posture and position the business for long-term growth.”

The company also stated that it is giving employees severance options such as early retirement.  It is also still hiring in other departments, despite the layoffs.  The current Dallas layoffs are not part of a company-wide plan announced in the spring to cut some 1,200 jobs in an effort to lower costs.
