Obama Shifting Message to Jobs

“It’s the economy, stupid!” James Carville’s quip seems to have lost no relevance since the days he first made it the mantra of Bill Clinton’s campaign nearly 20 years ago. Taking a page out of that play book, the Whitehouse announced on Friday that President Obama would cancel a health care themed engagement with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners during his trip to Seattle. Instead, he will attend an alternative event in which he will “talk about strengthening the economy and creating jobs for the families and businesses of Washington State.” With the economy still teetering between recovery and recession, Democrats will have to convince a skeptical electorate that things would have been much worse without their intervention.
