The Miami Herald is eliminating 49 more jobs in a second round of layoffs, the Sacramento Business Journal reports.

The Herald, which is the largest newspaper in The McClatchy’s Co. stable, also cut 175 positions last year.  According to the report, The Herald will offer buyouts and conduct layoffs. Among the positions being affected are nine newsroom jobs and four from its Spanish-language newspaper El Nuevo Herald.

Publisher David Landsberg told the Associated Press the cuts are the result of a still-weak economy and downturn in advertising revenue.

The McClatchy Co. owns 30 newspapers nationwide. It has cut 15 percent of its workforce over the last two years, the Sacramento Business Journal reports.
