In West Virginia, Special Metals has announced plans to lay off 62 hourly employees at its Huntington location, effective today.

According to spokesman for Special Metals, Dwight Weber, “We must continually make efforts to remain competitive for the future. It’s worth noting that, while we have had layoffs in the past, we have often recalled and, in some cases, hired additional people when business improved and volumes increased.”

Weber also said that industrial markets were recovering slower than the company had anticipated.

In January, Special Metals cut 40 hourly employees from an alloy plant in Altizer. A year ago, 85 hourly employees were laid off.
