Bottom line: your engagement in social media can be the key that either opens the doors to many jobs or locks them all away forever. More importantly, however, those who you connect with on social media may be the opening you need to land your dream job. This is not a new ideal. Throughout time, it has been noted that word-of-mouth recommendations by current employees often fill job openings long before even needed to be announced by the public. Many people everyday are hired because they know someone who knows someone. Fortunately for today’s generation “knowing” someone doesn’t necessarily mean knowing them at all. Through social media, a wider of gamut of people can be “met” virtually, thus opening more doors of opportunity.

One of the best elements of using social media to find a job is because it can truly reveal the jobs that are a best fit for you. When both you and your prospective employer have a social media presence, you get to experience each other beyond the nerve-filled confines of the interview room. This give the employer the opportunity to see a more relaxed, true version of who you are. You will also get to see some things about the employer that you admire, or adversely despise.

Interviewers can ask typical interview questions day in and day out. Chances are, they will get the same types of answers each time. Why? Because search engines offer an array of articles indexed revolving around the subject of interviews. And because your nervous prospect doesn’t know what to say, they will script all your typical questions to know just what to say. But do you want to know the true character of the prospective employee? Go ahead and check his Twitter feed to see what types of articles he reads online, what type of sense of humor he has, how he interacts with others. This will show you if he is a true match for the company.

And on the flip side, you can check out the prospective company. Look into some of the people they have already hired. Do you think that you will mesh with your possible colleagues, or will your personalities surly crash, creating a massive pileup. These are things that haven’t always been readily available like they are today. Use the resources at your fingertips and find the perfect job for you.
