John McDevitt, who is 53 years old and has been working with UP for 35 years, will now be working for the Human Resources department of UPS, along with his current role of dealing with Labor Relations. This announcement was made recently, as Allen Hill, the former HR for UPS, is retiring after working with the company for nearly 36 years.

Prior to receiving this new position, McDevitt was serving as the senior vice president for labor relations and global transportation services. His former responsibilities will now belong to David Abney, the Chief Operating Officer.

The CEO of UPS, Scott Davis, spoke very highly of McDevitt and his contributions to the company. Davis says that McDevitt has worked very hard for UPS and that he has a lot of confidence in McDevitt’s ability to be a leader and provide the utmost services as the head of the HR department for UPS. He believes McDevitt has the right experience to get the job done successfully.

McDevitt first started working for UPS as a part-time employee in 1976. He began working part-time at the beginning of his journey with UPS because at the time, he was also attending college. Since first starting with UPS as a part-time employee for the company, he has held a number of different positions, dealing with operations, labor relations, and corporate compliance. In 2000, he was actually named vice president of air operations. McDevitt has been very successful with the UPS Company and many believe that the decision to place him in HR was the best decision to make.

In 2003, McDevitt joined the Management Committee, in which he became the senior vice president for strategic integration. As the senior vice president, he had several responsibilities, which included helping the company evolve. By 2005, he became the vice president of labor relations, in which he was responsible for overseeing the company’s transportation networking, which includes a vast majority of vehicles and rail lines, along with a popular airline.

In the meantime, Allen Hill began his career with UPS during the same year, in 1976. He started working as a package loader but the position was only part-time. Much like McDevitt, Hill was also attending college at the time he started with UPS. Since joining the UPS Company in 1976, he has held a number of positions in which he has had much responsibility. In 1988, he continued working for UPS but instead of working as a package loader, he was now working as an employment attorney for HR. In 2006, he received the position with the HR department, which is a position he has continued to stick with up until his retirement.

Scott Davis spoke highly of Allen Hill as well, talking about how much he has contributed to the UPS Company. He also spoke of how he will, in fact, miss his partnership with Hill.
