Layoff notices were issued Feb. 1 to three junior patrolmen and three employees in public works, naming March 17 and May 4 as their last days, respectively. The township expects to save $475,000 through the work force reduction, Pietrefesa said. Public works superintendent Dirk Struening said that cuts to the 22-person department, which is slated to lose two from the road department and one from the maintenance shop based on seniority, could make it tougher to complete capital road projects.
