Governor John Walker is facing the most challenging fight of his life. A union-funded recall election, that could see him chucked out of office, as the Governor of Wisconsin. The unrelenting demands and huge pressure on the government could see an election for recall of John Walker, as early as spring.

His opponents submitted one million signatures, to press for his recall. The signatures are being verified, as many are alleged to be fake. The stakes are very high for the Governor, for as he admits that the fight, “goes well beyond who will be Governor of Wisconsin,”. His very future is at stake and his reputation will be indelibly tarnished, were he to lose the elections.

However, Mr. Walker seems to be unperturbed by the deluge of criticism against him and says that he hopes to the “first governor to be re-elected twice during his first term.”

The Wisconsin Democratic Party has released an ad that cleverly plays on the words “Watergate” by calling Walker’s alleged transgressions, “Walkergate.” The ad talks about the investigations by John Doe, of the Milwaukee County District attorney’s office, that is investigating whether Walker’s employees used tax-payers money to do political work?

The comparison with Nixon’s infamous corruption scandal cannot be missed; more so as Nixon’s photo is also put next to the images of Walker.

At the conclusion of the advertisement former Sen. Howard Baker can be heard saying, “What did the president know and when did he first know it?” and MSNBC host Ed Schultz also saying, “What did Scott Walker know and when did he know it?”

It is alleged that Governor Walker was in the know about the unlawful activities of his staff but instead of making a clean breast of it, preferred to hire high profile Chicago attorneys, to try and wriggle out of the mess.

Tim Russell, who was Walker’s campaign aide, is “accused of embezzling more than $20,000 in money meant for veterans and using it for personal expenses” by the Wisconsin State Journal. Walker however says that any case of staff misconduct that were brought to his notice were attended to immediately and this witch-hunting and character-assassination against him is to avert from the truth that his initiatives have reduced taxes, lessened unemployment and that the economy is in a far better state, in Wisconsin.

“This is about killing reform initiatives in every state in the country,” says Mr. Walker.

The Governor alleges that this battle is the result of having the courage to cross swords with public-employee unions whilst the latter believe that corrupt politicians must be made accountable and pay for their transgressions – the results of the impending recall election will answer the question, who was right?
