One school district, the Green Bay School District, has plans to review the possible changes that could be made to the handbook for educators because of the concerns that were addressed by the School Board. School Board members expressed their concerns about a lack of information and details in the educator’s handbook.

Many of the different employees and members within the human resources department have talked about different changes that could be made, especially when it comes down to the way that the district chooses to fill in the vacancies left by teachers. However, the teachers union of Green Bay claims that these changes would not benefit the staff members, especially when staff members choose to file for a transfer from the district to another district or to a different school.

With the possible changes, a teacher would need to fill out a survey. The survey would ask about the positions each teacher would like to have if any of those positions are ever made available, if the district ends up having vacancies. After the teachers filled out the survey and submitted it, the school district would then be able to announce which vacancies are available. However, the downfall to this is that any teacher that did not mention a specific position that is currently vacant available would not be allowed to apply for the position since it was not listed amongst their preferences of position. There are many people who disagree with these possible changes, saying that they are not fair for the teachers because at the time, a teacher many not be able to generally think of all the different positions he or she would be interested in at the very moment. The Green Bay Education Association delivered this argument as they believe it would not be fair to the different teachers.

In fact, the executive director of the Green Bay Education Association, Keith Patt, says that with all of the work he does on a daily basis, 40 hours a week plus an additional 20 hours that he puts in each week, he cannot simply sit around thinking about all of the different positions he could hope to have if they were available. However, many members of the human resources department feel as though these changes would be beneficial. They feel as though this is the best way to handle the situation.

Many people chose to attend the School Board meeting, which was held on Monday. A lot of the people who attended the meeting were teachers and they had many questions to ask. They were also asking the School Board to ask the human resources department to think about other changes because they simply do not agree with the changes that the human resources department has in store. Many questions went unanswered but there will be another meeting which will be held on the 12th of March.
