Things are looking up for the state of Oklahoma. For the month of January, the unemployment rate in the state fell to a shockingly low 6.1 percent. This is a considerably low percentage, nearing the percentage of unemployed individuals from before the recession. The recession, which began in 2007 and ended in 2009, has left the United States economy in turmoil. Many states are still working to build back up after being knocked down so hard during the recession. The United States is currently in a recovery process and Oklahoma seems to be one of the states in America that is doing exceptionally well. The information about the percentage of unemployed individuals in the area was released by the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission earlier on in the week.

The unemployment rate for the state of Oklahoma was at 6.1 percent for the month of January, lower than it was in the previous few months, when it was at about 6.3 percent. On the other hand, the United States as a whole had an unemployment rate of 8.3 percent which shows that Oklahoma is actually doing better than the whole United States when it comes to the unemployment rate.

A chief economist, Lynn Gray, who works for the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission, says that the state of Oklahoma is beginning to see major increases of employment and that the labor force is finally starting to pick back up. This is something that the people of Oklahoma want to see, especially since the state is still in its recovery stages after being left crippled during the recession, which put a lot of companies out of business and left a lot of people out of work and unemployed.

Oklahoma was not the only state in the United States to do well with the unemployment rate for the month of January. It was actually just one of over 40 states that made progress during the month, which shows that the United States economy is thriving and is finally beginning to get better, which is necessary during such a recovery period. This is definitely what the people of Oklahoma need. More job creation equals more job opportunities for those that are out of work and in need of a job.

Out of all the states in America, it was only the state of New York that had a higher unemployment rate during the month of January. All other states saw improvement with a decline in unemployment or were unchanged during the month. And, while New York did not have as much luck as the other states, improvements are still being made all around. The people of Oklahoma are definitely excited as the labor force is beginning to grow.
