Offshore wind farm.Participants at a conference this week will discuss the creation of a statewide New Mexico partnership promoting green jobs and the green economy.

Leaders from New Mexico colleges, the renewable energy industry, nonprofit organizations and state & local governments will participate in a two-day meeting starting January 21st at Hotel Santa Fe.

Three nonprofit groups – the Bioneers, the Regional Development Corporation and New Energy Economy – are working with the New Mexico Economic Development Department and the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions on the conference.

Community colleges throughout the state are developing training programs for wind and solar energy, and the conference will help coordinate and expand those efforts.

The event coincides with President Obama’s plans to push Congress for a comprehensive stimulus package that includes more than $50 billion for energy efficiency and new energy projects, as well as $500 million for green jobs training programs.
