Solo Cup Lays Off 179 White & Blue Collar Jobs

Disposable cup maker Solo Cup, which announced plans to cut 29 corporate and sales jobs at its Owings Mills, Maryland plant, will let go about 150 production line workers at the same facility by April.

For Solo Cup, this is the second round of layoffs in less than a week. This time the company, one of Greater Baltimore’s largest employers, plans to shutter its hot cup and lids production line in Owings Mills, shifting that work to other plants, Solo Cup spokesperson Angie Chaplin said.

Solo Cup does not plan to close its Reisterstown Road plant, where it has about 950 corporate and manufacturing employees, but it is studying whether to consolidate its Greater Baltimore operations.
