police Six part time police officers in North Versailles, Pennsylvania, are facing a possible layoff, though details are skewed.

The township commissioners claimed to not fully understand the scenario.

“They will be laid off tonight at 12 o’clock. Is that correct? Is that correct? Let’s just give a straight answer for once,” said one of the commissioners.

It is clear, however, that there is not enough money to go around.
“I reviewed it personally and I found, at this time, the budget is not balnced,” said a resident of North Versailles.

Another citizen citizen feared, “We’re going to bring more crime n her. People here who worked all their lives with a fixed income—I’m on a fixed income, I don’t want no tax increase, but if it’s to keep my area at a substantial rating, I want to live in a good area.”

Some residents were less concerned with the rating of their town and were opposed to a raise in taxes, which, during this economic crisis is very understandable.

“Right at this juncture we just can’t afford to keep paying [the officers],” said councilman Frank Bivins.

The part time officers will keep their jobs through January. After that, it is possible that the East Allegheny School District will pay the officers to work only in the schools. If this does not occur, the officers will be more victims of worldwide layoffs.
