New York’s Estee Lauder, the maker of Clinique and Bobbi Brown cosmetics, plans to eliminate 2,000 jobs after declines in makeup and perfume sales reduced Q2 profits.

The job cuts, which represent 6& of the workforce, will occur over the next two years.

Estee Lauder’s net income fell 30% to $158 million, or 80¢ a share, in the last three months of 2008.

Founded in 1946, Estée Lauder Companies is one of the world’s leading manufacturers and marketers of skin care, cosmetics, perfume and hair care products.
