Chemical Maker Lays Off 9% of Workforce

Rockwood Holdings says cutting measures implemented in 2008 will result in the reduction of about 9% of its global workforce.

The specialty chemicals maker expects to cut 893 jobs, and will continue to implement previously announced cost reduction programs, such as salary freezes and reduced work hours.

The company implemented a global salary freeze for 2009, and will reduce salaries and working hours in certain business units.
