Ground ZeroThe Port Authority of New York and New Jersey projects that over 26,000 new jobs, and $3.7 billion in revenue, will be created from construction at the World Trade Center “Ground Zero” site through 2016.

The center was destroyed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Building officials had predicted thousands of construction job losses this year, even before the economic meltdown cut funding for high-profile city projects.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey based its study only on the projects it is building on the site. Those include an office tower, a 9/11 memorial and a multi-billion-dollar transit hub.
