St. Anthony HospitalWhen Gig Harbor, Washington’s St. Anthony Hospital opened its doors on March 17, it created about 450 full-time equivalent jobs, with about 480 people filling those positions.

The hospital has a current capacity for 80 beds, but only 48 of them are open during the first phase. Once those are at capacity, 16 more beds will open for the second phase, and staff will be hired to cover those.

About 200 nurses were hired after nationwide recruitment.

The new hospital’s services and amenities include 24-hour ER, critical-care units, private inpatient rooms, heart catherization and vascular services, surgery, and a state-of-the-art cancer treatment center.

The hospital was built using green features, including large windows for abundant daylight, more than 50 percent of retained natural landscaping, low-VOC paints and adhesives, and a storm water system that uses low-impact development concepts.
