A total of 44 non-faculty members are being cut. A total of 80 jobs are being eliminated through attrition, layoffs and retirement by the end of the fiscal year.
The college is facing a $20 million budget shortfall due to a shrinking endowment. The endowment was worth $1.7 billion as of June 2008.
Wellesley College is a women’s liberal arts college, in Wellesley, Massachusetts, that opened in 1875. According to 2009 US News & World Report rankings, Wellesley College is the number four liberal arts college in the United States.
