Bibb CountyThe Bibb County, Georgia Sheriff’s Office will hire 17 civilian jailers, to allow trained deputies working in the jail to fill other vacancies within the department.

Macon Sheriff Jerry Modena said the change will save money and fill vacancies faster.

Like deputies, the corrections officers must be at least 21 years old and hold US citizenship. They must have a high school diploma or GED. Some college or technical school training in criminal justice is preferred.

Corrections officers and deputies also must pass a criminal background check, physical agility check and written exam.

The new salary for a corrections officer is $23,130 — more than $2,000 less than the salary for an entry level deputy.
