Texas flagThe State of Texas lost 39,500 non-farm jobs in April, which actually represented a decline in job loss compared to the first three months of 2009.

The state unemployment rate held steady at 6.7%. The US jobless rate was 8.9%.

Texas has lost 197,000 jobs so far in 2009.

Professional and business services lost 20,100 jobs in April; trade, transportation and utilities lost 15,400 jobs.
